Your CD Racks all use a standardised central module made from MDF
and using a pair of Woodfit inserts. This sheet will show you how to draw this
module to the correct size so that you can develop designs around it. Because
the size of the module is critical you will have to learn how to use
Dimension Constraints.
Open a new Design.
Draw a rectangle 168mm by 162mm. Use the dimension tool to help you get the size right.
Click on Feature then Extrude Profile. Extrude the rectangle to 364mm.
Click on Select then Faces. Highlight the front face of the block. Remember: this is the 168mm side.
Click on Workplane then New Sketch. Hold down Shift and press W. You should now be looking at the front of the block.
Draw a rectangle 328mm by 132mm on the front face. Use the dimension tool to help you get the size right. “Eyeball” the rectangle so that it looks more or less central.
Click on Constraint and then Dimension. Hold down Shift then highlight one of the verticals of the block and one of the verticals of the smaller rectangle. Drag away. Arrows should appear and a number telling you how large the gap between the lines is.
Double click on the number and enter 18 into the dialogue box.
Repeat steps 7 and 8 for the horizontal lines. Again set the constraint to 18mm. The small rectangle should now be positioned precisely 18mm inside the block. (This is because the MDF is 18mm thick.)
Click on Feature then Extrude Profile. Choose Subtract Material and Below Workplane. Enter 170 into the Distance box. The block should now be hollowed out.
Save your work.
